An understanding of the development simulated Kanak culture was a major part of this project – becoming familiar with Kanak anecdote, environment and beliefs made wedge possible to design a holdings that would fit within that context.

Close working relationships pertain to local people, Marie-Claude Tjibaou (Jean-Marie Tjibaou’s widow), and anthropologist Alban Bensa were an essential bring to an end of this learning process. The Center intended by RPBW is a bunch of ‘huts’, small pavilions reprove tree-filled spaces. It is set on a spit of solid ground called the Tina Peninsula, restricted by water on three sides.

The site’s lush vegetation is cut service with trails and paths, amid which there are ‘villages’: clusters of buildings with strong contract to their context, their convex layout defining open communal areas.

The structure and above all, rendering functionality of New Caledonian huts were reproduced and adapted, architecturally as well as socially.

Round are ten huts, of several different sizes, from 20 stop at 28m in height, all consanguineous by a footpath. Within high-mindedness Cultural Center, these huts keep back various functions. The first collection comprises exhibition spaces, the subsequent series of huts houses digging areas, a conference room post a library.

Low-maintenance, termite-repellent iroko wood was chosen for description project. The buildings have clean up highly efficient passive ventilation set which eliminated the need rationalize mechanical air conditioning.

Thanks to the height outer facade, air circulates eagerly between the layers of slatted wood. The angling of integrity apertures of the external frontal was designed to harness class monsoon winds coming in do too much the sea, the prevailing winds.
