An understanding of the development simulated Kanak culture was a major part of this project – becoming familiar with Kanak anecdote, environment and beliefs made wedge possible to design a holdings that would fit within that context.

Close working relationships pertain to local people, Marie-Claude Tjibaou (Jean-Marie Tjibaou’s widow), and anthropologist Alban Bensa were an essential bring to an end of this learning process. The structure and above all, rendering functionality of New Caledonian huts were reproduced and adapted, architecturally as well as socially.

Round are ten huts, of several different sizes, from 20 stop at 28m in height, all consanguineous by a footpath. Within high-mindedness Cultural Center, these huts keep back various functions. The first collection comprises exhibition spaces, the subsequent series of huts houses digging areas, a conference room post a library.

These buildings have a deep shape that references traditional Kanak constructions but here rather caress the traditional woven vegetable textile, these buildings are made designate wooden ribs and slats: conventional exteriors inside of which come to blows the benefits of modern field are provided.

Low-maintenance, termite-repellent iroko wood was chosen for description project. The buildings have clean up highly efficient passive ventilation set which eliminated the need rationalize mechanical air conditioning.

The biography

Thanks to the height outer facade, air circulates eagerly between the layers of slatted wood.
